Daniel Cohen
My work is driven to meet difficult conversations with openness, sincerity, and levity.
I believe that the role of the artist is to present their observations of the world and leave the audience with more questions than answers. Humility is essential to both good faith dialogue and a healthy relationship between artist and audience. Only then is there enough trust between them to truly dive deeply together into the most treacherous abyss.
I take influence from Middle Eastern-Jewish and American folk traditions of storytelling. My work is dreamlike and curious, floating on the outskirts of realism. I weave folktale, sacred text, and metaphor into modern questions and circumstances, to reveal greater truths.
My work invites audiences to sit back, relax, and shed preconceptions, in order to reexamine our world with nuance, love, and care.
